Charlotte
Chess Club,
an Affiliate of the USCF
meets each Wednesday evening at 7:00pm (or as early as 5:30 for some!)
at Wendy's Restaurant, 715
Charlottetowne Ave, Charlotte, N.C. (Directions) The club conducts a
perpetual 5 round tournament with one round being played each Wednesday evening at 7:30pm. The time control is 30/1, G30 - Top Section G90. Entry fee is $4. ($6 for non-members) The Annual club membership fee is $25. (Current members receive $5 discount) NCCA ($5) membership is required. The venue guarantees plenty of tables, good lighting, great food, close parking, limited smoking and friendly management?! Join us to participate in casual play as well as USCF rated games. Your first visit is FREE! Non-members, who have visited more than once, and play off-hand games are required to pay $2. The CCC sponsors a bi-monthly 3 rd. Swiss at Quaker Steak & Lube and other occasional tournaments. For schedule see "Upcoming Events" In order to compete in "Tournament Competition" and join the CCC, NCCA or USCF simply show up at the site. NEWS & VIEWS 11-1-07Newton Takes Top; Myers "B"; Obey "C"; Frazier Lower Section of Wendy's 91 Charlotte, NC 10-31-07: A grand total of 32 of the most gifted and talented thinkers in the Metrolina area dressed in full Halloween regalia congregated at this haunted house more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Wendy's 91.  In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, the
pride of Crouse, NC, 2006 Player
of the Year NM Frankie "Bluffer" Newton (2271) in order to dodge the
paparazzi, envoked the "Fischer Rule" but still finished clear 1st Place with 4-0 winning $100. Clear 2nd Place with 3.5-1.5 was Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (1987)  who, in his opponents time trouble, survived a Knight
vs. Bishop ending against 13 year old phenom Samuel "Xman" Xin (1935).
In addition, Gary
"NightCrawler" Newsom (1999)
grabbed a Pawn and held on tight against NM Leland " Ennui" Fuerstman
(2032) while Michael "Bolton"
Kliber (1986)  yielded a Draw to 15 year old phenom Dominique "the Dominator" Myers (1681) whose new rating
according to the USCF Rating Calculator is 1809! (Myers
has now earned the distinction as CCC "Man on the Bubble" - Welcome to
the Top Section, Dude!) In the "B"
Section, Myers breezed
through the field taking clear 1st Place
with 4-1
winning Free Entry into Quaker Steak V on December 15. In addition, Dr. Gil "Sherlock" Holmes (1787) disarmed Winfred
"Guns" Gatlin (1204) and Patrick "Bugs" Cunningham (1602) welcomed James
McLean (Unr) to the CCC while Peter
"the Greek" Giannatos (1609)
split the point with Derek
"Cats" Smith
(1720) likewise Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1770) with Octavius "0-0" Obey (1530). In the "C" Section, Obey took clear 1st Place with 3-1. In the Lower Section, "Smokin" Corey Frazier (819) took clear 1st Place with 4-1 winning Free Entry into Quaker Steak V on December 15. Other Lower Section winners were: Dr. Ron "Feet" Futerman. All

Steak IVCharlotte NC 10-27-07: A record low turnout of
only 4 brave holdouts from
the boycott participated in Quaker
Steak IV. (Some played in the SC Championship;
others played last weekend) In the Top Section,
Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2084) knocked  off Viktor "the Mad Russian" Ozherelyev (1609)
in Rd:1, used kryptonite on
mild mannered Clarke "Kent" Brosi (1770) in Rd:2 and agreed to a quick GM Draw
with NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2032) in the final round
to score 2.5-.5
and share =1st-2nd Place with Fuerstman who defeated Brosi in Rd:1 (See Game 0707) and Ozherelyev in Rd:2 each winning $30. In
