Pealer Takes Top; Lucas, Richards "B"; Little "C"; Pedigo Perfect in Lower Section of Skyland 53
Charlotte, NC 4-16-14:  A grand total of 38 (including 26 players this evening), of the most creative calculators in the Carolinas converged upon this grand ballroom more commonly know as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Skyland 53. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress, Cindy. Most enjoyed a generously portioned home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($6.95!) drank hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; Skyland stays open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #2 player, NM Shawn "P Diddy" Pealer (2194) elected to invoke the "Fischer Rule" by not playing the final round but still finished clear 1st Place winning the Title with 3.5-.5. Clear 2nd Place with 3-2 was the pride of Mint Hill, Ex-member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2061) who swindled Team Columbia Expert Keith "Chucky" Eubanks (2039) after he "assumed" that the obviously under the weather veteran (allergies???) had blundered a piece away!?! (See Game 1292). Meanwhile, Team Columbia (who now resides in Buffalo, NY) NM Sam Copeland (2231) won a lively equal colored Bishop ending versus NM Pat "Kahn" Sciacca (2144) (See Game 1294)  while Team Columbia Expert James "Big" Mac Dougall (2036) outplayed, but did not necessarily clobber Michael "Bolton" Kliber (2054). In addition, Expert Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2051) applied a bit of overkill to his conclusion versus the CCC's newest Class "A" player, Dr. Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (1814) (See Game 1293) who has now achieved the privilege of participating in the Top Section! while the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1823) took down Dave "Dawuud" Richards (1637). In the "B" Section, Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1744) outplayed Ervon "Wooden" Nichols (1646) to finish =1st-2nd with Richards each with 3-2. In addition, Allen "Moon" Mullins (1701) went to the wire with Carl McKern (1580) while Team Columbia's Brandon "Michael" Jordon (1513) upset Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1608). In the "C" Section, "Little" Joe Little (1623) split the point with Mikey "Fox" Trott (1375) to take clear 1st Place with 4-1, win a nice trophy and matriculate to the Class "B" Section! In addition, "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1511) outplayed Mohnish Behera (865). In the Lower Section, FSC Graduate Debs Pedigo (1425) defeated Joe Rafferty (Unr) to finish clear 1st Place with a perfect 5-0, won a nice trophy, gained 212 points and graduated to the Class "C" Section!! In addition, Sam Kumar (1375) defeated new CCC member Claude Rainford (1034) and Rich "Alert" Trela (1040) got by new CCC member Mike Lyons (101). In order to observe all results see "Current Crosstable." McCartney assisted. The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope more players will join us to dine, socialize and play one rated game of chess at 7:45pm sharp! Everyone is welcome. Long live the CCC!
Eubanks, Chandler =1st-2nd in Carlsen  Section; Mytrysak Clear 1st in Aronian Section of Knights Templar VIII
Charlotte, NC 3-29-14:  A predictably light turnout of 18 of the most loyal members of the CCC royal guard congregated in our private room (with a view) on the 7th floor of the Dowd YMCA in order to participate in Knights Templar VIII. In the Carlsen Section, Team Columbia's Keith "Chucky" Eubanks (1997) requested and was granted a half point bye in Rd:1, took down Julian Billings (1455) in Rd:2 and defeated Tony "Tiger" Cato (1621) who Drew NM LF in Rd:2 (See Game 1285) in the final round to share the Title with 15 year old Cameron Chandler (1899) who dispatched of Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1608) in Rd:1, Ishaan Maitra (1789) in Rd:2 and earned a nifty Draw (See Game 1284) in the final round against NM LF (2055) who was quickly running of time each with 2.5-.5 winning $75. In the Aronian Section, Jason "1st Amendment" Mytrysak (1427) took a half point Bye in Rd:1, outplayed Mikey "Fox" Trott (1411) in Rd:2 and defeated Sam Kumar (1350) in the final round to capture clear 1st Place and pocket $70. Equal 2nd-4th were Sam Kumar, Jens Koeplinger and Rich Trela each with 2-1 winning $12. In order to observe all results, see "Crosstable." An enjoyable time was had by all. Tony Cato assisted. Next Knights Templar May 3. See you there! LF
