099 - Inappropriate Language at Billy's: Last weekend, during Billy's IV, this Director received reports from those who overheard, and personally witnessed two separate incidents whereby players used inappropriate language. Regardless of one's skill level, personal expectations or non-chess related differences of opinion which may arise, such language in the presence of women, children and religious adults is absolutely prohibited at the Charlotte Chess Club. Each of these players has been repremanded. A paraphrased response from each follows:

5-16-05 "...my difference of opinion about a personal matter with Expert Keith Eubanks ... was not an excuse for me to start spouting off profanity!? It was wrong of me to do so, and two wrongs don't make a right. Nobody should have to listen to profanity. I would like to formally apologize to all of the people at Billy's who shouldn't have had to listen to that...and in the future I will attempt to vent my anger in a more appropriate fashion" Sincerely, Patrick McCartney

5-17-05  "...last Saturday at Billy's IV, I made a few rash decisions without thinking and used vulgar language that was by no means acceptable. Those words were not directed toward anyone in particular, mostly toward my lack of skill in my previous game. I would like to apologize for my "sophomoric" actions ...and I have already apologized to my worthy opponent ...in the future I will attempt to express my emotions in a more civil manner."
   Respectfully, Matthew Green
