Good Turnout Highlights Spirited Play At N.C. Open in Greensboro
More than 160 players joined the action at the N.C. Open Oct. 13-15 in Greensboro. In the Open Section, Asheville's SM Miles Ardaman posted a 4.5/5.0 score to claim sole first and become state champion. Charlotte’s FM Andrey Chumachenko was clear second. Ardaman has now become the state champion in five states - North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas and Florida.

In the Under 2000 Section, Troutman’s Gary Branton went 4.5/5.0 to take first. In the Under 1800 Section, Bobby Waddell, Joshua Taylor and John Brooks all scored 4.0/5.0 to tie for the top spot. In the Under 1600 Section, Luis Guzman went 4.5/5.0 to take first. In the Under 1400 Section, Stephen Maynard posted a 4.5/5.0 result to claim first place.

In the Under 1200 Section, Connor Labean was a perfect 5-0 to grab first place. Hiroki Wakiya was victorious in the K-12 Section of the scholastic side event. Eric Noden claimed the K-8 event.


In addition, CCC's C. Randy Wheeless is now the President of the North Carolina Chess Federation.  CCC's Bernard Baker is Vice President.
