Oh, you are proud to announce that only 66% of the entry fees were paid back to the players?! (What ever happened to the NCCA rule requiring that at least 75% be returned, which the CCC has always done for weekend events?!) Let's see, an out-of-state player, who took clear 1st Place, won $458. The player who won the NC Title, SM Ron Simpson only took home $327. And the Directors and other volunteers, all from NC of course, received who knows how little for doing most of the work?! - So, congratulations again to Thad Rogers for another great tournament success! He didn't even make a single chess move and took home approximately $3,500 or 10 times the amount that the NC champion won??! (That doesn't even include his revenues from the sale of books and equipment from which he probably paid no commission to the NCCA?) And, please don't give me the "expenses" argument. I have already explained that (see msg339), and anyway, Ron Simpson, like everyone else, had expenses too, ie. entry fee, hotel, gas, food, new chess books, etc!?
That's not just a "handsome profit" for the organizer, it's an outrageous rip-off!?? All who condoned this should be ashamed of yourselves! Until this ridiculous policy of allowing out-of-state players to participate in our sovereign NC State Championship coupled with allowing an out-of-state promoter to continue to take all of the profits back to Georgia, the NCCA is NOT serving the best interests of North Carolina players. (Again, I maintain that Thad Rogers is a perfectly legitimate businessman who is, in the absence of any regulation or oversight, simply taking advantage of a great deal! It has never been his fault; on the contrary, it has been the fault of past NCCA Presidents who have allowed this dubious situation to perpetuate.)
I call upon our newly elected NCCA president to do the right thing and take immediate steps to reverse these unfair policies. LF
