Leland,

I just happened to look at your website to see if anything was new.  Apparently not...  I have been outside the chess circle for a while but I hope it is OK for me to comment.  First, there is only one Robert Singletary.  There will never be another one. You can't compare anything he has done in the past to anything that will be done in the future.  There are only a handful of people that are close to being that dedicated to chess.

Also, you're starting to sound irrational when it comes to Thad.  People are entitled to run a business and be profitable but even so, you are completely off base about the amount of money he makes.  As I have mentioned to you before, If you would like to purchase a van, get a storage unit to keep all the chess paraphernalia that has to be dragged across all these states for a chess tournament, do it.  You've run tournaments.  How profitable have you been?  If it was so profitable more people would be doing it.

In regard to the NCCA, I've only been around honest, devoted people.  You had a problem with one person, many years ago.  Let it go.  I don't know the new person but nobody is doing it for the great pay, prestige or great working conditions, they're doing it because they love chess. You're name has been synonymous with Charlotte chess for as long as I've been here (17 years).  You devote a great deal of time and energy to keep the sport alive.  I'm sure if you used some of that energy to help the new president succeed rather than berate him, I think it would be good for the chess community as a whole.

Regards,

Rob: Thanks for your friendly comments. The reason for the van is that he
makes a tidy profit  from the books and equipment which he sells to our players. My only complaint is that Rogers, a Georgia resident, has been allowed to promote and directed our State Championship and has shared none of the profits with the NCCA? Nor has he ever displayed a balance sheet showing expenses and profit. I truly believe that we have enough competent organizers and directors in North Carolina who are capable of doing the job and keeping the profits at home. LF
