Hi,
I am holding a special tournament for scholastic players on July 19th on the 7th floor of the DOWD YMCA in Charlotte (a terrific location with excellent lighting, air conditioning, and a superb view of the city). This tournament will feature 3 sections. Players do not have to be USCF (United States Chess Federation) members to participate!

1: The "Express Challenge" section
At 30 minutes per player per game, this section is designed for children and parents who appreciate a little less wait between rounds. Trophies will be awarded to all players who meet the challenge and score a perfect 3-0. All children who play all of their games (3 games are guaranteed for all players) will receive prizes/recognition for their participation. This section is open to players under the age of 13 with a current USCF membership and a rating under 1000. This tournament will be done by approximately 12:30 with an awards ceremony from 12:30 to 1 pm.

This section is designed to accommodate players who are not USCF members and are under age 13Top Finishers will be awarded USCF Memberships! With a USCF membership, children will enjoy the opportunity to enter tournaments sanctioned by the USCF (such as those almost monthly events sponsored by the Charlotte Mecklenberg Scholastic Chess Association). The format for this event will be similar to the "Express Challenge". All children who play all of their games (3 games are guaranteed for all players) will receive prizes/recognition for their participation. This tournament will be done by approximately 12:30 with an awards ceremony from 12:30 to 1 pm.
