Rangarajan Leads Top; Sztyber, Callahan "B"; Gatlin "C"; Robason Lower Section of Wendy's LXI; New Starting Time 7:30pm Sharp! (Players who arrive late, or don't call, will be paired with other late entrants, if possible) 
Charlotte, NC 11-17-04:  A slightly stronger turnout of 24 of the Metrolina area'a most punctual pawn pilots gathered at this celebrated arena for mental jousting more commonly known as Wendy's in order to participate in Rd:2 of Wendy's LVI. In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, 2004 N.C. Co-Champion SM Karthik "Rajah" Rangarajan (2520) remained undefeated in USCF competition as he repulsed the dubious attack of NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2035) (See Game 0437)to lead with 2-0. Meanwhile, the CCC's #2 player, 2004 N.C. Invitational Champion NM Frankie "Neutron" Newton (2282) ditched a piece for 2 pawns at time control but held on to Draw with Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2124), Expert Shawn "Arlo" Pealer (2033) survived a double edged encounter with the good Reverend Bernard "King" Baker (1843) and 2002 West Virginia State Champion Gary "the Nuisance" Newsom (1981) returned with a vengeance with a decisive victory over Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (1961). In the "B" Section, the good Dr. Gerard "the Butcher" Sztyber (1771) botched a simple procedure but ultimately prevailed over Laura "Karate Kid" Lee (1698) to share the lead with Chris "Dirty Harry" Callahan (1701) who took a half point bye each with 1.5-.5. In addition, Marty "Fritz" Katz (1615) beat down Ankit "Butch" Jivan (1617) and Jonathan "Henry" Hudson (1632) was tossed into the river by Dave "Ameen" Eadie (1561). In the "C" Section,Winfred "Guns" Gatlin (1532) squeezed out a pawn up ECB ending versus upstart Ilgin "the Mad Turk" Birsan (1270) to lead with 2-0. In addition, Don "Juan" Hofer (1485) steamrolled Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton (1465). In the Lower Section, new member Justin "Daniel" Robason (1260) dusted Duncan "Doughnuts" McLaughlin (1005) to lead with 2-0. Other Lower Section winners were: Joe Shirlen and Reid "Miles" Ward. Charlotte,  NC 11-20-04:  A grand total of 27 chessplayers journied from as far away as Russia in order to participate in Smokehouse LVII. In the Top Section, Expert Chris "the Babe" Mabe (2124) split the point with Patrick "Fabio" McCartney (1961) in Rd:1 and then registered victories over Expert Keith "Chuckie" Eubanks (2058) and Gary "the Nuisance" Newsom (1981) respectively to share =1st-2nd Place honors with Russian Grandmaster? Gennady Brazhnikov (1754?) who upset Eubanks in Rd:1, Drew Matthew "Hoekstra" Green (1802) in Rd:2 and survived a wild Rd:3 melee' versus NM Leland "Premier Hombre" Fuerstman (2035) whereby the latter player overstepped the time limit with a winning position, each scoring 2.5-.5 and pocketing $75In the Middle Section, =1st-4th Place was shared by NCCA Vice President Elect Randy "Wheels" Wheeless (1592), David "T" Richards (1637), Jerome "Cookiemonster" DeBell (1616) and Ken "Kohloff" Ivens (1666) each with 2.5-.5 winning $37.50. Equal 1st-2nd in the Lower Section was shared by "Dr" Phil Whittington (1569) and Don "Juan" Hofer (1485) each with 2.5-.5 winning $52.50.
