"You don't stop playing when you
get old; you get old when you stop playing!"
Benjamin Franklin

Here is the only truth: "We are the
pawns of the mysterious game of chess played by God, who moves
us, stops us, shifts us ahead, and soon picks us up
one after the other and gathers us in the same box of Nothing."
Omar Khayyam 1040 ad

"Chess grips its exponent,
shackling the mind and brain so that the inner freedom and independence
of even the strongest character cannot remain unaffected."
Albert

"Imagination does not breed insanity.
Exactly what does breed insanity is reason. Poets do not go
mad; but chess-players do".

In
memoriam: All members of the CCC are shocked and saddened at the
news of the untimely death of Laurin Keller, 31, of Greensboro.
Through the years, Laurin participated
in many CCC events
and made many friends here. An avid student of chess and strong player
in his own right (he once gave me a draw when he was clearly winning!)
Laurin was one of the most amicable and friendly people I have ever
known. He will be long remembered and sorely missed. All of our prayers
go to his grieving family and friends.
NM Leland Fuerstman
Message from best friend Sean
Ward
Thank you so much for the condolences
and for the tribute on the
Website. I know Laurin would be humbled by it and also deeply
touched, as I know his family will be.
