Sciacca, Fuerstman Lead Top; Wright, Breukelaar "B"; 3 "C"; Moore, Passmore Lower Section of Skyland 42
Charlotte, NC 2-27-13: A moderate turnout of 22 of the most contented chess fanatics in the Charlotte area converged upon this think tank more commonly known as the Skyland Family Restaurant in order to participate in Rd:2 of Skyland 42. (CCC members got very comfortable sitting in the padded booths and full size tables and chairs while being catered to by our own personal waitress, Cindy. Most enjoyed a generously portioned delicious home style meal for a ridiculously low price ($7.45!), drank fresh hot coffee and other beverages, analyzed on our demo board and monitored the giant flat screen TV with the sound turned off; open 24 hours!) In the Top Section, the CCC's #1 player, NM Pat "Kahn" Sciacca, Esq. (2199) squared off against the CCC's #2 player, Expert Shawn "P Diddy" Pealer (2177) snagged the exchange in the middlegame and finally won the endgame (See Game 1157) to share the lead with the pride of Mint HIll, Ex-Member of the NCCA Hall of Fame, NM Leland "Ennui" Fuerstman (2000) who literally mauled the hybrid Kings Indian Attack of Expert Patrick "Flanker" McCartney (2088) (See Game 1155) each with 2-0. In addition, "Wild" Bill Connell (1950) outlasted the "Judge" Slobodan Sinanovic (1822) while superhero Daryl "Flash" Gordon (1868) beat down Paul "Survivalist" Lucas (1770). In the "B" Section, Bill "Mind weeder" Wright (1694) ditched a Pawn but ended up with a well placed Knight (See Game 1156) and went on to defeat Dr. Ron "Dutch" Breukelaar (1717) to share the lead with 1 point. In the "C" Section, "Smokin" Corey Frazier (1535) got up off the canvas and knocked out "Little" Joe Little (1434) to share the lead with 1 point. In the Lower Section, Tom Passmore (1344) got by Eric "Truth" Hartung (1230) while Stanley "Steemer" Moore (1356) defeated Debs Pedigo (939) to each lead with 2-0. In addition, Jason Mytrysak (Unr) split the point with Rich "Alert" Trela (1234). In order to observe all  results see "Current Crosstable" The facility was great and everybody was happy! We hope that more players will join us next Wednesday to dine, socialize and play one rated game of chess! Everyone is welcome. Long live the CCC!
Mason Clear 1st Place in Top; Mayfield Lower Section of Knights Templar I
Charlotte, NC 3-2-13: An elite group of 17 competitors from 3 states trekked through a "sudden blizzard" in order to congregate on the 7th floor "with a view" of the Dowd "Y" and participate in Knights Templar I. In the Top Section, while two of the top players fought it out to a Draw on Bd:1, ex-Expert and soon to be Expert again Sulia Mason (1958) sneaked into the back door by dispatching "Little" Joe Little (1434) in Rd:1, Team Greensboro Expert Josh "Lawman" Lawson (2016) in Rd:2 and Team Greensboro's Tony "Prime Time" Sanders (1560) in Rd:3 to finish clear 1st Place with 3-0 and pocket $100. NM Pat "Kahn" Sciacca (2199) and Expert Wil "Mayhem" Mahan (2080) were =2nd-3rd with 2.5-.5 each winning $25. In addition, "lower half" prize money was shared by Team Greensboro's John Retarides, Spencer "Jazzman" Singleton and Sanders each with 1.5-1.5 winning $15! In the Lower Section Quad, Team Columbia's Michael Mayfield (1434) finished clear 1st Place with 3-0 and pocketed $40. Clear 2nd Place with 2-1 was Michael Trott (751) winning $20. An exact payback of 75% was shared by almost half of the players who participated! In order to observe all results see "CrosstableOur next event is Knights Templar II, April 13. See you there!
